Are you ready for October 1st?
Q: Do you currently provide One Day First Aid Training?
Q: Do you have HSE approval?
Q: Did you know that after October 1st 2009 you will need to be approved by either the HSE or a recognised Awarding Body of the QCA for your training to be valid in the Workplace?
A: Yes or No! But what can I do?
The HSE ideally would like all of you to go through the very expensive approval process or the new QCA alternative. There is an alternative!
Training providers like you can enter into partnerships with companies who are already HSE approved and continue to provide your services and maintain your customer base. It is also an opportunity to extend your training services into teaching full First Aid at Work Courses.
If you are thinking of this route please be aware that there are some companies out there who would happily take your money off you to work with them:
Some companies will sell you a course which on completion gets you a "HSE Approved First Aid at Work Trainer" certificate, ~ There is no such qualification and this can be confirmed by contacting the HSE direct.
They will promise you full support and not provide it. ~ We have recently been approached by one such newly qualified trainer who ran an FAW course through his "franchiser" but had to come up with his own paperwork and then contact a third party to get some course assessors!
Some companies will put you on a First Aid at Work course one week and a Trainers course the next week then let you out to teach and arrange your own courses the week after. This does not meet the requirement of the HSE publication "Guidance to First Aid at Work Training Organisations".
Contrary to the advice of some companies, a person who can prove underpinning knowledge and experience and has an adequate CV/Portfolio is perfectly acceptable as an instructor
Emergency Training UK (Approval No 87/00) can offer you a cost effective alternative to the HSE or QCA routes. As an already approved organisation we will offer:
Full advice and support BEFORE you make your decision.
We will not charge for any unnecessary courses or qualifications.
Full advice and operational/admin support throughout the period of your partnership.
Variable time agreements for your partnership. i.e. 6mths, 12 mths or longer, depending on circumstances.
A no nonsense explanation of what you can and cannot get away with as a partner. i.e. Some companies allow their "franchisees" to print their details on the certificates which implies that the franchisee/partner are themselves HSE approved. This is not permitted.
A guarantee NOT to approach your customer base.
If you are worried about your future as a training organisation after 1 October - Don't! There are alternatives.
