Course Title: Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
Course Outline: A half day course designed to teach people the correct procedures for the safe usage of AED within differing Industrial, Care and applicable environments
This course is aimed at persons who are permitted and eligible by previous qualification (e.g. First Aid at Work) to attend.
The aim of this course is to educate students in the principles of the safe and effective use of AED in the workplace during Cardiac Arrest situations.
At the end of the course, successful candidates will able to identify the need for and subsequently use Automated External Defibrillation as advised in line with current UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines.
The Training Programme for this course is as follows:
Ø Introduction to course – 15 minutes
Ø Basic Life Support: current protocols/Chain of Survival – 1 hour
Ø Uses of AED – Seattle Statistics – 30 minutes
Ø Break – 15 minutes
Ø Description/demonstration/practice with AED (individual) – 1 hour
Ø Practical Sessions (Group) – 1 hour
Ø Examination and Discussion – 1 hour
Total including breaks: 5 hours (minimum)
Total excluding breaks: (guided learning hours) 4 hours 45 minutes(minimum)
Section 7 - Achievement measurement
There is a practical examination for Automated External Defibrillation. Successful candidates will be issued with a certificate of competence for the use of AED, which is valid for six months.
